Heritage Park – Fort Worth
  • History

An acclaimed downtown park by a celebrated landscape architect.

The 112 acres of Heritage Park include some of the most scenic land in Fort Worth. Encompassing the terrain above and the bluffs down to the Trinity River, the park is rich with history and provides visitors with beautiful vistas to the north.

Atop Heritage Park is Heritage Plaza, a signature architectural element built near the site of the original military outpost that gave our city its name. Designed by renowned landscape architect Lawrence Halprin, Heritage Plaza is a commemoration of Fort Worth’s history and was our city’s official contribution to America’s Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. Halprin’s unique landscape designs stretch across America, from the FDR Memorial in Washington, D.C. to Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco.

Located northwest of the historic Tarrant County Courthouse, the plaza serves as a connection between downtown and the Trinity River. In fact, the plaza was recently recognized internationally as a “marvel of modernism” by the Cultural Landscape Foundation.
